blues (2021)
It's a short dance solo not to be performed on a theatre stage. It was made to be danced for the audience of the dead people, as every place in every city is also a cemetery. The dead are around us in that sense all the time. Blues was made with the intention to entertain them. The living audience is of course invited to watch it too, but they are not the main addressees of the piece, neither should they expect to be entertained.
Blues is a site specific dance, meant to adapt to any space (which is not a theatre stage). It lasts min. 10, max. 15 minutes –every space offers different possibilities, poses different challenges, which influences the length of the work. There are two musical numbers used in the piece, both speaking about loss, but using different languages, coming from different cultures and different times and addressing different musical tastes (Arabic and German; pop and classical; ancient and modern). Do the dead have musical tastes? Do they have nationalities? Do they speak languages? Are they of different age? What dance would they like to see? What body?
